I have always been a "couponer," but as of late, I have been really trying to focus on getting really good deals by stacking coupons and buying things that go on super sale. This weekend, as soon as I got the Sunday paper and ads, I headed out to CVS.
CVS, Walgreens, and Target are great places to save because you can stack manufacturer coupons on top of store coupons and you are also able to receive extra rewards at Walgreens and CVS, which is like cash in hand. You might be thinking "But, these places are overpriced to begin with, why not just go to Walmart..." I used to think the same way, but as soon as I did my first coupon "stack" AND got extra care rewards back, I was sold. The trick is to wait until it goes on sale and to also check the multiple 25%-75% discounted items throughout the store.
Take for example, the Speed Stick deodorant. Each stick was marked down 75% to $1.04. I also had a buy one get one free coupon. So, I was able to get two for pennies each.
Now, take the two Vick's medicines. CVS had a sale on them for 2/$12 but you would get $3 extra bucks back. I also had two manufacturer coupons: $2 off the Nature Fusion and $1 off the boxed medicine. I paired all this together and essentially payed 2/$9 PLUS $3 in rewards, which is like saying it was 2 for $6 or $3 each. This is a great deal for a high quality brand. And now, I can use those extra bucks towards future purchases.
